Video of the book

Bordering the Biestebroeck Basin in Anderlecht, the Aurore neighborhood is a unique part of Brussels. Before its dynamics were forever changed by the Canal Plan, young photographers Tom Lyon and Pauline Vanden Neste went to meet its residents. Brussels, a city of perpetual construction, has constantly been reshaped by large-scale urban planning projects with their own brand of utopias. One such project is the ambitious 2012 Canal Plan, promising new housing, community, and revitalization of the neighborhoods along the artificial waterway that cuts through the city.
"The canal area is undergoing huge changes. Even as art students, we feel it." says Pauline Vanden Neste, 25.
"This is where we go to party. This is where artist workshops flourish, where new real estate projects are sprouting, bringing along gentrification."
