Cataracta Solisis a long-term photographic series that unfolds with Anna Haillot's travels around the Mediterranean. This project, which blends various series and spaces such as Corsica, Sicily, and Morocco, intertwines intimate and political considerations. Living in the Limousin, a region at the heart of what is known as the "diagonal of emptiness," Anna finds the necessary distance to capture the paradoxes, fantasies, and beliefs cultivated by mass tourism that envelops the Mediterranean. This "diagonal of emptiness" refers to a sparsely populated area in France. This location allows her to observe and question the stereotypes and illusions created by mass tourism, revealing the less idyllic aspects of the Mediterranean: rising sea levels, shipwrecks and migrants, rare but destructive storms, increased surveillance, artificial paradises, and economic and social inequalities. Her search becomes an obsession—she is both overwhelmed by the evident beauty and disturbed by the "solar tragedy" of the Mediterranean. She seeks to find this space in every thing, every person, every atmosphere, wherever she goes. Each photograph serves as both a relic and a requiem, creating a shared utopia where the complexities of the Mediterranean are immortalized. The project reflects a deep exploration of the Mediterranean's multifaceted reality—beauty, hardship, and the search for truth amidst the tourist's gaze."
